About us
Born in Japan and encouraged from an early age by her mother, Denise, Sophie began her literary journey while still a child. At the age of 8, she published her first book, The Lion and the Puddle of Mud, marking the start of a creative journey that would continue to grow in the years that followed. After moving to the United Kingdom, her passion for writing found even more room to flourish. Exposure to different cultures, languages and experiences broadened her view of the world and inspired new stories. Today, Sophie is the author of more than ten bilingual books, written in Portuguese and English, aimed at different age groups within childhood. This website was created to share these stories with families around the world, but also to fulfil an even greater mission: to encourage other children to believe in their creative potential and turn their own ideas into books.

Who can submit a manuscript?
We created Sophie Books to celebrate the voices of children and young writers. We accept manuscripts from authors aged 6 to 19 who have a story they would love to share with the world. Picture books, short stories and early chapter books are all welcome.
As our authors may be under 18, manuscripts must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of the child or young author, and the submission must be reviewed and approved by them before it is sent to us.
At the moment, we accept manuscripts written in Portuguese or English.
Every manuscript will be read carefully by our team, and we will get back to you by email within 10 working days.
What happens after I submit my book?
Once your manuscript has been submitted through our form, here is what happens next:
Confirmation — you will receive an email confirming that we have received your manuscript.
Review — our team will read each story carefully, considering its content, suitability for the intended age group and whether it could be a good fit for Sophie Books.
Response — within 10 working days, we will contact you by email with our feedback.
If the story meets our guidelines and is ready to move forward, we will speak with the parent or legal guardian about the next steps.
If the manuscript needs further development before we can consider including it in Sophie Books, we will explain what could be improved. Manuscripts that cannot be accepted because they do not meet our guidelines will also receive a response.
Is there a fee to submit a manuscript?
No. Submitting a manuscript to Sophie Books is completely free. We will never charge you to read, consider or provide feedback on a submission.
If anyone claiming to represent Sophie Books asks you to pay a fee to have a book reviewed or included, do not make any payment. Please contact us at hello@sophiebooksandco.com to let us know about the situation.
Do you accept submissions from outside the UK?
Yes! Although Sophie Books is operated from Brazil, we accept manuscripts from children and young writers anywhere in the world. Great stories can come from anywhere, and we would love to read yours.
Submissions can be written in Portuguese or English.
If a story is selected to be part of Sophie Books, the formats and availability may vary depending on the country.
